Windsurfing: The Dip-Felixstowe Wind Direction: ene Wind Stength: 14/18 Surf / Sea State: choppy then smoother Air Temperature: 24 Sea Temperature: 16 Weather: sunny Max Speed: 24.26 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 38.85 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Today looked like the only chance to get out windsurfing with 16 mph
forecast.Mag and I went to The Dip for breakfast and Neil Hurrell arrived
and the wind was gusting over 20 kts :) so Neil rigged 7m but my 7.5 is
sadly dead :( and I couldn't rig my 7m as I broke my 4.6m mast in Scotland
so the day can only get better !!! So I took a chance and rigged 8.5 the
same as Steve Carter. We had missed the best of the tide and it was coming
in so we had wind with tide and as the water came in it chopped up. I did
manage to get going just and even got out 2 miles to check out the large
boat anchored offshore - a bouy laying vessel - but the wind went light and
I lost lost downwind :( After a break on the beach I struggled back to the
van for lunch.Mark D and Ian C had arrived and rigged 7m so I decided to
give it another go in winds that had picked up a notch but it seemed hollow
and gutless but I was planning :) I beat up to Bawdsey Beach which was slow
going as 8,5 is not best suited to this board. I turned in the river Deben
near the sailing club and had two mega braod reaches back - reaaly good :)
On arriving back at The Dip Mag arrived on her bike and we had tea in the
van :) Neil was still going well on 7m so I went out for another non-stop
hour - the best of the day as the tide dropped the sea flattened off even
if still lumpy out by the red bouy. So a one star floundering day turned
out all right in the end - shame a few more didn't come down and enjoy the
sunshine !!!
